The star has handed over the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the trust for venues, which works to save the United Kingdom's grassroots music venues.

Fender was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his third album People Watching was chosen as the best record of the past year.

He has opted to hand the money over to the trust, in recognition of the crucial part small stages played in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," said Sam Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists like the band Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help smaller concert halls.

He also joined in, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation supported spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from water damage, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Some locations obtained monetary aid in upgrading amenities and gear that positively impacted musicians and audiences.

"The concept that funds from performances in big venues backs the smaller venues, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has stated.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is backed by a national body and music fans who acquire "ownership units" in the buildings.
